Patient Information – Meningococcal Disease (South East England)

Posted on March 20th, 2026

Following widespread national reports of meningococcal disease cases in the South East, mainly affecting students in the Canterbury area, we recognise that many patients may feel concerned.

The overall risk to the general public remains low. Public health teams are directly contacting those at higher risk and providing appropriate treatment and vaccination.

For general enquiries or reassurance, please contact the National Helpline 0344 225 3861.

If you feel seriously unwell (for example: high fever, severe headache, rash, or confusion), please seek urgent medical help by calling 999 or attending A&E.

We will continue to follow national guidance and provide updates where needed.
